Fearful of legal action from groups like Judicial Watch, lawmakers in different parts of the country have abruptly rescinded support for measures that would have benefited illegal immigrants and violated laws in the process.
This week Maryland’s governor withdrew his costly plan to issue separate driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants and legal residents while, across the country in San Antonio Texas, officials blocked their own proposal to open a publicly funded day laborer center to accommodate illegal aliens in search of employment.
The about face by Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley actually reversed a long-standing policy that made the state only one of seven to grant official driving privileges to illegal immigrants, even though federal law requires proof of legal status before obtaining a driver’s license.
O’Malley wanted to adopt a two-tier approach in which applicants who could not document their legal presence in the U.S. would only get a special license to drive in Maryland but not a card that would be accepted as identification at airports or in other states. The plan was projected to cost taxpayers between $60 million and $80 million.
In San Antonio, officials basically killed a plan to open a publicly funded day laborer center just as the City Council was on the verge of adopting a measure to create the facility where illegal aliens, mostly from Mexico and Central America, could gather and be hired.
Instead the City Council scrapped the plan indefinitely, apparently fearful of costly legal challenges that would ultimately defeat the measure anyways. Judicial Watch sued the town of Herndon, Virginia, on behalf of U.S. taxpayers, for opening a day laborer center that was eventually shut down by the legal challenge. A similar Judicial Watch lawsuit is still active against Laguna Beach, California, which operates its day laborer center with public money.

Your website
I just discovered your website the other day, and wanted to take a moment to thank you for your public advocacy, particularly as there are so few like you to which ordinary citizens can reliably depend will vigorously engage corrupt political elites, left or right.
It's comforting to know you exist because most of us are powerless or without any determining public influence; the "Vote" being the one, pitiful remaining weapon left in our democratic arsenal, and what a meaningless weapon that has become, when citizens are routinely exhorted to go to the polls and exercise their great democratic privilege by exchanging one set of charlatans and swindlers for another. Why? So politics may proceed as usual, of course. A pox on both their houses.
All the best,
David Romero
Publicly Funded Programs For Illegal Immigrants Killed
If I see something happening in Calfornia, then I will know that this is working.
California, with a 14 billion dollar State Budget Deficit, all of which can be atrributed to the presence of 4 million illegal immigrants, and more than 1 million children of illegal immigrants attending our CA schools, at a cost of $9,912, per student, per year. That's a 10 billion dollar loss, just from their children attending school. Is there any wonder why California has a 14 billion dollar deficit??
California also has any number of sanctuary cities.
Arnold seems to be afraid to say the words illegal immigrants, lest he upset the community, and so the rest of us get all that madder.
California needs some anti-illegal immigration legislation in the worst way.
programs for illegals
first of all im hispanic, from the hood, h.s. dropout with college credits. there is so much these illegals get over on, from jobs, homes, credit and some get there B.A.s paid for! I just don't understand why! I must say this: they are getting savy on the system on how to make it in the U.S. [i work with them] they tell how they do it. (bad ssn#, medical, welfare etc.) but, they still have that fear of getting caught! their big fear is doors closing on them: jobs, schools, ID's, medical, welfare. many have told me that if they get caught and end up back in mexico, it's no big deal they will spend some time there and make their way back. oh, there is much more. shutting down these windows and more is a great start. feel free to comment, gracias.
illegals
i think the key word here is illegal, the thing i would like to see changed the most is the use of anchor babies.the baby is born to illegals, not us citizens.if a baby is borne to illegals in a us hospital, they should be deported as soon as the baby was released by the hospital.anchor babies are a shoe in for illegal aliens, and this needs to be changed.if a pregnant immigrant is allowed here to visit during pregnancy the visa should expire a week before expected due date.
Illegals
You all sound like a group of racists who don't see the other side of having illegal immigrants here. I'm pretty sure you would be found picking grapes if illegals were not here to do it and I am almost positive you would still find someone else to blame for the deficits and problems this country faces. Why don't you look beyond that and point the finger at your beloved president? Now we look beyond color of skin, race and socio-economic status. Thousands of soldiers have died leaving thousands of families behind and not only that, it has cost this country billions to do so. Isn't that a much greater deficit? Lives lost, billions lost all to prove one has power! This country is the way it is because of narrow minded people like you not because of illegal immigrants. Open your heart and be a better person, it will change your life.
