Re:
Reckless Endangerment of V Street Postal Employees
Dear Postmaster General Potter:
Judicial Watch, Inc. (“Judicial
Watch”) is a non-profit, non-partisan, public interest group that investigates
and prosecutes government corruption and abuse.
Judicial Watch represents hundreds of United States Postal Service
(“USPS”) workers and a USPS workers’ support group organized as “Brentwood
Exposed,” concerning all matters related to the October 2001 anthrax attacks.
Media stories over the last 24 hours
have reported that a letter addressed to the Federal Reserve Board, and
processed at the V Street Post Office, tested positive on three (3) occasions
over the past twelve (12) days for anthrax bacteria contamination. As you know, a number of our clients, among
them former Brentwood postal workers, are assigned to the V Street Post Office.
Your subordinate, Tom Day, the Vice
President for Engineering at the USPS, was quoted in press reports yesterday as
saying that “There’s absolutely nothing that indicates we have a contamination
problem here.” The last time USPS
officials made such unfounded, broad, sweeping statements, two postal workers
died and over 2000 postal workers were exposed to the deadly anthrax pathogen.
This letter serves as notice that,
should events at the V Street facility unfold as they did at Brentwood, we will
pursue strong legal action against all responsible parties on behalf of our
postal worker clients.
Govern yourselves accordingly.
Sincerely,
Larry Klayman
Chairman and General Counsel
