Sir, write you not only FAA Inspector, but former FAR 121 ALPA pilot with battle star gold ALPA pin; former 12'1 Chief Pilot and 30+ years life certificated pilot.
This has one the low points your life. all make mistakes, none are immune.
Please consider what you would advocate for line pllot Chief Pilot you were still ALPA rep. would some version of: accept responsibility, submit some prescribed event(s) and help your fellow pilots with education and outreach. your heart there, this low point could turned into great example for all certificated pilots, especially Airline Pilots. The Administrator had very unfortunate situation placed front him. did not resign and disappear. stood up, subjected himself the same treatment that any line ptlot would subjected to. then got his medical certificate back, got requalified and became example how deal with such adversity. have personally helped line pilots navigate this exact path.
The FAA has benefltted greatly from your leadership and there alot work do. will never done.
This something consider.
Sincerely,
Inspector Deke Abbott AFS-220
Sorry hear you had rough day

History. This message has been replied to.
Randy, with great sadness that learned your resignation this morning. You are the first Administrator long time who had both the technical, operational, and administrative experience lead the FAA. Personally, was hoping that could work through the current difficult circumstances together agency and emerge stronger from the experience rather than forced make the politically correct decision.
Also from personal perspective both year ALPA member and five plus year FAA employee, have appreciated both your enlightened leadership and management ability. rare case when excellent leaders are also excellent managers. distressed your departure, but also recognize that the strong cultural safety foundations you have developed over your years aviation industry leader will only become stronger the future.
You have had positive effect the industry, and you are lauded for it. wish the best for you and your family going forward.
With best regards,
