SANFORD POLICE DEPARTMENT REOPENS 

SANFORD, FL-APRIL 2012 --The public office the Sanford Police Department has reopened following the departure student protestors. The students had occupied the space front the police department's 
main entrance blocking the public from entering the building. The protest followed 40-mile march from "Daytona Sanford support ofTrayvon Martin. Prior the protesters leaving the scene, City. officials, including the City Manager Norton Bonaparte Jr., and the Acting Po.lice Chief Darren Scott, met with leaders the student group and community leaders. From that meeting, was decided'that Thursday, April 19, 2012, 6:30 p.m., there would meeting community leaders and city officials discuss plans for healing the City Sanford. The location the meeting has yet announced.

Sanford, Fla. (April 23, 2012) -At special City Commission meeting p.m. this afternoon, the Commission will asked approve resolution authorizing the City Manager Norton Bonaparte execute the separation agreement tendered the City Manager Police Chief Billy Lee, Jr. Under the separation agreement, Chief Lee would resign from his post, effective midnight tonight. The chiefs resignation comes month after was allowed temporarily step down from his position police chief effort aid restoring calm the City the wake protests surrounding the Trayvon Martin investigation. 
Captain Darren Scott 23-year veteran the Sanford Police Department was appointed Acting Chief and has been managing the department since that time. Acting Chief Scott will continue this role with the department while the City continues its search for interim police chief. confident that Acting Chief Scott will continue provide the leadership necessary keep this agency functioning the highest level and protect the citizens the City Sanford," said Mr. Bonaparte. "The City has experienced great turmoil the past two months and are hoping stabilize the department and continue with this time healing." 
The City working with consultants from the Police Executive Research Firm (PERF), seeking interim police chief. PERF's Executive Director and Executive Search Consultant visited Sanford the end March. The firm expected have qualified persons identified for the interim chiefs position the end this mnth.
