Yesterday, the U.S. diplomatic post Benghazi, Libya was attacked.
Heavily armed militants forced their way into the compound and set fire
our buildings. American and Libyan security personnel battled the attackers
together. Four Americans were killed. They included Sean Smith, Foreign
Service information managem~nt officer, and our Ambassador Libya,
Chris Stevens. are still making next kin notifications for the other
two individuals.
This attack that should shock the conscience people all faiths
around the world. condemn the strongest terms this senseless act
violence, and send our prayers the families, friends and colleagues
those weve lost.
All over the world, every day, Americas diplomats and development

The mission that drew Chris and Sean and their colleagues Libya both
noble and necessary. And and the people Libya honor their memory carrying forward. This not easy. Today, many Americans are
asking-indeed, asked myself--how could this happen? How could this
happen country helped liberate, city helped save from
destruction?
This question reflects just how complicated-and times, how
confounding-the world can be. But must clear-eyed, even grief.
This was attack small and savage group, not the people
government Libya. Everywhere Chris and his team went this country
scarred war and tyranny, they were hailed friends and partners. And

Benghazi resulted the death four U.S. Mission personnel, including the U.S.
Ambassador. That same day, 2000 protestors gathered outside of~mbassy Cairo protest the planned release low~budget U.S. film depicting Prophet
Muhammad negative light. The film purportedy associated with Florida
Pastor Terry Jones and American Coptic Christians. Approximately pi:otestors
breached Embassy Cairo wans and vandalized the Embassy compound, including
tearing down and burning the flag. The Egyptian police did not respond until
