with one round trip per day from DCA. 
Under authority granted the FAA Modernization and Reform Act 2012, the 
U.S. Department ofTransportation will awarding new entrant limited incumbent 
carriers total eight slot exemptions DCA, which would support four daily round trips. received Alaska's application, which also proposes one daily round trip San Diego, 
March 12. Other timely applications were received from Air Canada, proposing one round trip Vancouver, British Columbia; Frontier Airlines, one round trip Colorado Springs and 
beyond San Diego; JetBlue Airlines, one round trip San Juan Puerto Rico and one round 
trip Austin, Texas; Southwest Airlines, one round trip Austin and San Diego beyond; Sun 
Country Afrlines" one round trip Las Vegas; and Virgin America, Inc., two round trips San 
Francisco. the matter still pending, cannot comment the merits the points raised your letter. 
However, can assure you that all applications the Department received will given full and 
fair consideration and will evaluated against the selection criteria specified the statute.

Oregon notoriously underserved for air service into Washington, 
D.C. one the most populated states without nonstop service DCA, yet over 420 passengers fly between Oregon and 

the Washington, D.C., area each direction every day. 
Today, nonstop service from Oregon limited single United Airlines frequency into Washington Dulles (IAD) order fly out DCA, Oregon residents have make time consuming connections 
through Seattle, San Francisco, through other circuitous points. Consequently, actively 
supported efforts increase the number beyond-perimeter exemptions permitted DCA new entrants and limited incumbent air carriers have the opportunity provide direct flights from the west coast into DCA. 

Alaska Airlines well-positioned provide Oregonians 
with their first nonstop service into DCA. Alaska and its regional carrier, Horizon Air, have substantial hub presence PDX and currently operate 
more than flights per day destinations. They are highly regarded for their customer serviceT financial strength, and operational performance. are pleased their proposed nonstop flight from PDX into DCA the top priority their application.
