Judicial Watch v. U.S. Department of Treasury

The federal government has already applied $86 billion to bailout the mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and the cost to American taxpayers is expected to reach $200 billion by the end of 2010. On February 5, 2009, Judicial Watch filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request with the Treasury Department to obtain documents regarding the government's bailout of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Despite filing a 10-day extension, the Treasury failed to produce any documents, so on July 29, 2009, Judicial Watch filed a lawsuit to force the agency's compliance with its FOIA obligations.
