From the Desk of Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton:

Border Security and Immigration Reform Act of 2007

Last week, the Bush White House and a select group of senators reached a prospective deal on immigration… a deal that could mean amnesty for millions of illegal aliens.  This week, Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff stumped for the legislation.  While acknowledging that there is a “fundamental unfairness” in a bill that allows illegal aliens to stay, Chertoff says he is unwilling to call for mass deportations.  “We are bowing to reality,” Chertoff said.

More like ignoring reality, I would say.

Amnesty for illegal aliens only serves to make matters worse.  According to documents obtained by Judicial Watch, when the president announced his original amnesty proposal in 2004, illegals flooded across the border based on the rumor alone!  Imagine what will happen if this bill becomes the law of the land.

(This new plan creates what is called a “Z” visa, enabling illegal aliens to remain in the United States permanently without ever having to return home.)

This week, I had a chance to review the draft bill in further detail and have additional questions.

Section 413 of the bill pushes for increased attention to the Partnership for Prosperity, a program launched by President Bush and former Mexican President Vincente Fox in 2001.  In particular, a section of the immigration bill, entitled “Bilateral efforts with Mexico to Reduce Migration Pressures and Costs” says, bluntly, “It is the sense of Congress that the United States and Mexico should accelerate the implementation of the Partnership for Prosperity to help generate economic growth and improve the standard of living in Mexico…”   The Partnership for Prosperity is a predecessor to the Security and Prosperity Partnership.  The Partnership for Prosperity focused on our relationship with Mexico, while the SPP broadened the international discussions to include both Mexico and Canada.  Indeed, Section 413 also mentions the Security and Prosperity Partnership.

Many believe the SPP and its various incarnations related to North American integration could potentially sacrifice U.S. sovereignty.  Judicial Watch has taken the lead in calling for transparency in these proceedings as the media and our elected representatives seem reluctant to do so.  (To learn more about our efforts and read SPP documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act, click here.)

Section 413 endorses the SPP-type talks with Mexico and calls their acceleration, including, incredibly, support for the $17 billion plus in remittances sent by illegals and others to Mexico each year.  Notoriously, Congress has had virtually no interest in any oversight related to the SPP, so it seems odd to endorse the expansion of something it knows little about.

No immigration bill, as of yet, has passed either the House or the Senate.  I encourage you to call or write to your elected representative with your opinions.  The Capitol Hill switchboard number is (202) 224-3121.  For more information on the bill, go to http://thomas.loc.gov/ and search Number S.330.

In the meantime, Judicial Watch will continue to fight for the enforcement of immigration laws across the United States.  Click here to find out the latest news on our illegal immigration campaign and stay tuned for more…

Judicial Watch Uncovers Three Deaths Relating to HPV Vaccine

This week, Judicial Watch released documents detailing 1,637 reports of adverse reactions to the controversial vaccination for human papillomavirus (HPV), Gardasil.

The reports, obtained from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) under the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act, document three deaths that were related to the vaccine.  One physician’s assistant reported that a female patient “died of a blood clot three hours after getting the Gardasil vaccine.”  Two other reports, on girls 12 and 19, reported deaths relating to heart problems and/or blood clotting.

As of May 11, 2007, the 1,637 adverse vaccination reactions reported to the FDA via the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) included 371 serious reactions.  Of the 42 women who received the vaccine while pregnant, 18 experienced side effects ranging from spontaneous abortion to fetal abnormities.

Side effects published by Merck & Co. include potential pain, fever, nausea, dizziness and itching after receiving the vaccine.  The less widely publicized side effects reported include paralysis, Bells Palsy, Guillain-Barre Syndrome, and seizures.

The Centers for Disease Control, the FDA, and Merck have gone into “spin” mode in the media in an effort to downplay the information uncovered by Judicial Watch.  I hope that Gardasil, a politically-correct drug being pushed in face of adamant opposition from pro-family groups, is not given a pass by our federal government and its promoters in the private sector.

Mandated HPV vaccination is being hotly debated across the country, but regardless of personal or political opinions -- the FDA adverse event reports on the HPV vaccine read like a catalog of horrors.  Any state or local government now beset by Merck’s lobbying campaigns to mandate this HPV vaccine for young girls ought to take a look at these adverse health reports.  It looks as if an unproven vaccine with dangerous side effects is being pushed as a miracle drug.

Rev. Jerry Falwell, R.I.P.

Rev. Jerry Falwell, who passed last week, was remembered Tuesday in a ceremony as a great man and a great leader.  A former Judicial Watch client, Rev. Falwell was an upstanding Christian and dedicated American who showed courage in standing up to the Clinton administration and helped lead the conservative cause in battles against moral and political corruption.  May God bless his soul.

Happy Memorial Day!

This Memorial Day, Judicial Watch would like to acknowledge and thank the men and women in uniform who sacrificed their lives in defense of their nation.  As many of us rush to take time off and be with friends and family this weekend, let’s pause and say a prayer of thanks for the fallen, veterans, and those now in the military who place their lives on the line to defend our freedom.   Have a happy and safe Memorial Day weekend!

Until next week…

Tom Fitton

President
