The military and other government officials do not need lavish accommodations at any time during their terms.
Public access accommodations are just fine. This article reminds me of the bathrobes for top brass that cost hundreds of dollars at the time when the common bathrobe was just a couple dollars.

We need all the funding at the lower level, boots-on-the-ground level.
