Judicial Watch Statement on Supreme Court Same-Sex Marriage Decisions

JUNE 26, 2013

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch today issued a statement criticizing the rulings by the Supreme Court of the United States in United States v. Windsor (No. 12–307),  the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) case and Hollingsworth et al. v. Perry et al. (No. 12-144), the California voter-approved Proposition 8 case.

Judicial Watch filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the Department of Justice (DOJ) to obtain records of communications regarding the decision to not actively defend DOMA.

Judicial Watch had joined with the Allied Educational Foundation (AEF) in filing an amicus curiae brief with the United States Supreme Court in support of California’s Proposition 8.

Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton issued the following statement reacting to today’s rulings:

“The American people lost today in the marriage cases before the Supreme Court.  The Supreme Court’s decisions are political power grabs that undermine the very notion of self-governance and the rule of law.  Today, the judicial activism of the Supreme Court undermined the confidence of millions of Americans that it can fairly apply the law on controversial social issues.”

Once again American CITIZENS are tricked. The Supreme Court has failed again to INTERPRET the law. It’s ok though as the American people have a short memory. Look out for Hillary. Keep up the great work and thanks for your time.
