How’s this for a jaw-dropping revelation? One week ago today, Department of Justice (DOJ) attorneys for the IRS finally admitted in a phone conversation to Judicial Watch that Lois Lerner’s emails weren’t “missing” after all! No, they were backed up alright. But the government is now saying it’s just too much trouble to go looking for them.
Innocent minorities in Ferguson are suffering the effects of violence because law enforcement is following Eric Holder’s ideological and racially political approach to policing, as opposed to the public interest model of police protecting lives and property.
The order from U.S. District Court Judge Emmett Sullivan was certainly clear enough. In a landmark victory for Judicial Watch, the federal judge ordered the IRS to submit sworn declarations detailing what happened to Lois Lerner’s “lost” emails and what steps were being taken to find them.
Put another check in the “win” column for Judicial Watch, True the Vote and election integrity. Because of our historic lawsuit, Indiana has now put into place significant protections to ensure free and fair elections in the state – protections so significant that JW and True the Vote declared victory and ended our legal fight there.
Judicial Watch announced the release of more than 200 conflict-of-interest reviews by State Department ethics advisers of proposed Bill Clinton speaking and consulting engagements during Hillary Clinton’s tenure as secretary of state.
Were it not for Judicial Watch, the so-called “lost” IRS emails, where former IRS head Lois Lerner discussed an agency-driven campaign to target Tea Party organizations, would have remained a well-kept Obama administration secret.
The IRS will now have to explain, per a court order, what happened to missing/destroyed/concealed emails that could shed light on the origins of the agency’s attack campaign against conservative organizations.
If there is a case study which perhaps best describes why Judicial Watch is so important and how we are different from any other organization, it is the record of success we have achieved in exposing the Obama Internal Revenue Service (IRS) scandal, in which that powerful federal agency was used to target and harass conservative organizations.
Judicial Watch filed a Motion for Status Conference, and within hours was granted a hearing in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia to confer about the emails of Lois Lerner and other IRS officials, which were the subject of longstanding Judicial Watch Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests and a lawsuit, and which the IRS now claims
IRS Commissioner John Koskinen testified during the House Ways and Means Committee hearing that IRS “destroyed” the hard drive of Lois Lerner (and, presumably, other top IRS officials) and that there was nothing he could do about it. The IRS disclosed that Lerner’s computer had likely been sent to a “hard drive cemetery.”
