Obama’s Clinton Advisors Target Of Protest
JUNE 20, 2008
When Barack Obama speaks at the conference of mayors in Miami this weekend, the area’s powerful Cuban exile community will protest to denounce a pair of top campaign advisors who worked in the Clinton Administration and played key roles in sending Elian Gonzalez back to Dictator Fidel Castro.
Time has not healed the deep wounds suffered in that community when Clinton Attorney General Janet Reno ordered heavily armed federal agents to illegally break into the Miami home of Elian’s relatives to take the boy in 2000. He was subsequently sent back to communist Cuba following the violent Good Friday raid that victimized dozens of peaceful supporters, many of them older women praying the rosary.
Two of the top Clintonites responsible for the nationally televised raid, Eric Holder and Greg Craig, now work for Obama’s presidential campaign. Craig is a foreign policy advisor and Holder a member of Obama’s coveted vice presidential search committee.
As Reno’s deputy attorney general, Holder directly participated in orchestrating the raid and Craig, Bill Clinton’s personal attorney in the Monica Lewinsky impeachment scandal, represented the Cuban government in its effort to get the boy back. As part of Clinton’s inner circle he had access to Reno and repeatedly had illegal ex parte (one-sided) communication with the attorney general.
Holder is, of course, also well known for playing a leading role in Clinton’s shameful last-minute pardons, including a fugitive financier (Marc Rich) who fled the country to escape prosecution for tax evasion, racketeering and trading with the enemy and a pair of domestic terrorists (Weather Underground) serving lengthy prison sentences.
