ACORN Sues To Kill Law It Violated

The corrupt taxpayer-funded leftist group best known for its fraudulent voter registration drives has filed a federal lawsuit to kill a Pennsylvania law banning its shady quota system for registering new voters.

Already facing criminal charges in various states, the renowned Chicago-based “community group” (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now—ACORN) with close ties to President Barack Obama is trying to rewrite a Pennsylvania law to accommodate its crooked method of recruiting new voters in low-income, “underserved” communities.

The lawsuit is a response to criminal charges against five ACORN workers who collected and submitted bogus voter registration forms in the Pittsburgh area during the 2008 presidential election. Prosecutors in Allegheny County charged them with forging cards, falsifying dates of birth and Social Security numbers to fulfill ACORN’s daily quota of 20 new forms.

In its 19-page complaint against Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett and Allegheny County Prosecutor Stephen Zappala, ACORN asks the court to stop enforcement of the state’s anti-quota law because it unconstitutionally interferes with important political activity. It refers to its illegal quota system as an “aspirational goal” that canvassers strive to collect per shift.

ACORN is also charged with more than two dozen felonies for operating a similar fraud-infested voter registration drive in Nevada last year and could face additional charges for submitting fake registration cards in Florida and New Mexico. Nevada prosecutors say ACORN illegally compensated workers to register voters based on a corporate mandated quote system, which led them to submit thousands of registrations with fake names and addresses throughout the state.

It turns out that ACORN hired convicted felons to register voters in Las Vegas and in fact got many from a transitional housing facility operated by the Nevada Department of Corrections. In a search warrant affidavit one ACORN employee said many of the canvassers were “lazy crack heads” who were not interested in working and just wanted the money.

In previous elections, ACORN has been busted for falsifying information to register new voters in numerous other states, including Milwaukee, Missouri, Ohio, North Carolina and Colorado to name a few. In 2007 the group settled the largest case of voter fraud in the history of Washington State after seven workers were caught submitting about 2,000 fake registration forms.

Despite its documented fraud and serious legal problems, ACORN will play a huge roll in the 2010 Census even though it’s technically not eligible under federal guidelines. In May Judicial Watch made public documents obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau detailing ACORN’s substantial involvement in the upcoming population count even though the group continues to engage in criminal activity.

Incredibly, the radical leftist organization continues to receive massive amounts of U.S. taxpayer dollars for its various community programs. Earlier this year ACORN got a multi billion-dollar infusion—for “neighborhood stabilization activities”—from the monstrous economic recovery bill that was supposed to create new jobs and offer an immediate tax relief to stimulate the ailing economy.
