Former US Justice Department official calls NC voter suppression ‘a myth’

In an op-ed for Wall Street Journal, Robert Popper, a Senior Attorney for Judicial Watch, quashes the minority voter suppression myth regarding North Carolina’s new election laws. He discusses voter turnout data from the November 2014 election demonstrating that black registration and voter turnout increased after North Carolina adopted new laws eliminating same-day registration, reforming early voting, and requiring ballots to be cast in home precincts. Presenting this evidence, he exposed the baseless claims of the League of Women Voters and the NAACP, who are challenging the state’s laws in N.C. State Conf. of NAACP v. McCrory on the grounds of “racial discrimination.” Popper was the Deputy Chief of the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division before coming to Judicial Watch. Learn more about Judicial Watch’s efforts to promote election integrity here.

Take a look at this compelling quote from Robert Popper, as featured in his op-ed:

“It is becoming harder to ignore the data suggesting that the ‘voter suppression’ narrative is a myth,” Popper wrote.
