Watchdog groups call on State Department to force Clinton to turn over her emails
A dozen watchdog groups sent the Secretary of State and the National Archivist a letter calling for the State Department to transfer all of Hillary Clinton’s emails containing federal records to them for review. These groups want to ensure that FOIA requests and lawsuits against the State Department are fulfilled. Hillary Clinton turned in 30,000 emails to the State Department last December; however, she deleted more than 30,000 emails. In response to Clinton’s email scandal, Judicial Watch has filed FOIA requests and lawsuits for records of Clinton’s email communications. Read more about the latest FOIA requests Judicial Watch filed regarding that here.
Here is a snippet of the letter from the watchdog group coalition, as quoted in the article:
“Rather, the Archivist and State Department should oversee the process to ensure its independence and objectivity. To the extent that it is ascertained that any record emails were deleted, they should be retrieved if technically possible.”
