How Did The State Department Respond To Open Records Requests For Hillary’s Emails?
MARCH 04, 2015
The State Department has claimed it cannot find Hillary Clinton’s email records of the personal email account she used when she was Secretary of State. However, that claim violates the regulations put in place by the Federal Records Act and the Freedom of Information Act and has hampered progress on FOIA requests filed by reporters and groups like Judicial Watch on this matter. In response to this scandal, Judicial Watch filed new FOIA litigation. Read more about that litigation here and here.
Tom Fitton, president of Judicial Watch, offered some commentary on this matter, as quoted in the article:
“One key concern is that these emails must be immediately secured so that they can be searched in response to our lawful FOIA requests,” Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton said. “In addition to violations of the Freedom of Information Act, laws governing the preservation of federal records and the handling of classified information also may be implicated in this latest Clinton scandal.”
