“Transparent” Obama administration exempts White House office from FOIA regulations

The White House announced it will no longer subject its Office of Administration to FOIA requests, citing a 2009 appeals court ruling in support of its decision. This office, which is responsible for archiving emails and carrying out administrative tasks, was under FOIA regulations for 30 years, but it stopped subjecting itself to FOIA regulations during the Bush administration. Now, this office will be subjected to the Presidential Records Act, which deems that White House emails will be released five years after the administration leaves office. Some suggest this change was made because the executive branch has been involved in email scandals involving Hillary Clinton and Lois Lerner.
