Watchdog group accuses Roll Commission of ignoring transparency

On behalf of the Grassroot Institute of Hawaii, Judicial Watch filed a FOIA lawsuit against the Native Hawaiian Roll Commission regarding their list of 122,785 Native Hawaiians. This commission seeks to rebuild a Hawaii Nation through this list, which was compiled without the consent of the people who are listed on it and has yet to be made public by Roll Commission chairman John Waihee. On June 3, a judge will hear arguments regarding the lawsuit. Read more about this lawsuit here.

“They don’t want to see an election happening,” Waihee said. “They don’t want to see Hawaiians reorganizing themselves. As I said, this is more about politics than it is about substance.
