Watchdog group turns up a $17 million tab for Air Force One
MARCH 11, 2015
Today, President Obama is traveling to Los Angeles to attend a DNC event and appear on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” On Tuesday this week, he attended a DNC fundraiser in Atlanta, Georgia. Judicial Watch has been at the forefront of obtaining government records on how much taxpayer money President Obama spends on travel. Recently, Judicial Watch discovered from its FOIA request that the First Family spent $3,672,798 of taxpayer money on flight expenses alone for their 2014 Hawaii Christmas vacation. Read more about that here.
Judicial Watch’s president Tom Fitton offered some commentary on President Obama’s excessive travel on the taxpayer’s dime, which is quoted in this article:
“President Obama received heavy criticism for moving forward with the West Coast fundraisers in July and the August vacation due to numerous major international crises at the time: escalated fighting in Gaza and the surge of illegal aliens over the U.S. border,” notes Tom Fitton, president of the organization. “Only a week before heading west, Obama also drew fire for attending fundraisers in New York immediately after the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 in Ukraine. There was, however, one section of his West Coast trip Obama’s advisers deemed wise to cut out — an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel’s comedy TV show.”
