Raid Angers Homeland Security Sec.

The nation’s Homeland Security Secretary is furious that immigration officials did their job this week by arresting 28 illegal aliens who used fake documents to work at a Washington state engine plant.

Instead of being commended for their good work, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have been blasted by their new boss, Janet Napolitano, who has ordered a swift investigation into the worksite raid because it broke Obama’s promise to the influential “La Raza” movement—that undocumented workers won’t be arrested.

There’s really not much to probe, however. ICE officials say they conducted the raid at the engine plant in the northwest Washington city of Bellingham after a pair of gang members tipped agents off. Upon investigating the information, officials confirmed that the factory employed dozens of undocumented workers, many of them with fake or stolen Social Security numbers and other counterfeit documents.

That information seems irrelevant to Napolitano, who as Arizona governor vetoed several key laws to curb illegal immigration in her state. The stakes are higher now that the entire nation’s safety is essentially in her hands, however.

As Homeland Security Secretary, Napolitano oversees a massive agency that encompasses ICE, Customs and Border Protection, Citizenships and Immigration Services and the Transportation Security Administration. Combined they work to preempt terrorist attacks by protecting the country from outside threats.
