Another Liberal Judge Gives Child Molester Outrageous Sentence
What is going on with these judges and the unconscionable sentencing of child molesters? It was only a few weeks ago that a Vermont judge drew national outrage for giving an admitted child rapist a 60-day sentence.
This week, a Massachusetts Superior Court judge allowed a high school teacher to avoid prison in exchange for pleading guilty to raping one of his male students. Demoralized prosecutors called the sentence “disheartening.”
Judge Suzanne Delvecchio, the first woman to be appointed chief justice of the Massachusetts Superior Court, sentenced the 26-year-old man to a 2 ½ year suspended term and five years probation. That means he will not spend a day in prison for raping the 15-year-old boy who sent the court a letter saying, in part; “I feel you deserve jail. You are a disgrace to all teachers.”
News of this shocking judicial action is spreading fast and so is outrage. Stop the ACLU writes that something is definitely wrong with these judge’s judicial philosophy and therefore we should pray that there are not too many judges with a mindset like this. The Daily Brief says that these cases points out the desperate condition of the court system in this country and the valid reason for the president to appoint as many conservative judges who apply, not make, law.
