Atty. Gen Refuses To Enforce Law
A state attorney general is a chief law officer who is supposed to defend laws and protect public interest, yet in Massachusetts the man who holds that high office, proudly boasts that he won’t enforce any law having to do with illegal immigration.
Massachusetts Attorney General Tom Reilly refuses to take action against companies in his state that openly hire illegal immigrants, even those with large public contracts. A local newspaper reported the rampant violations in a story that included damaging anecdotes of illegal aliens using phony Social Security numbers to work on a local jail project.
Reilly said that it was not his job because immigration policy “is the responsibility of the federal government, not the responsibility of the state government.” Massachusetts law does, however, state that it is unlawful for any employer to knowingly employ any alien in the Commonweatlh who has not been admitted to the United States for permanent residence except those who are admitted under a work permit.
This isn’t the first time Reilly, who is running for Massachusetts governor, is in hot water for his advocacy of illegal immigrants. Late last year, he rallied state legislators to support a bill that would allow the children of illegal immigrants to pay in-state college tuition. Annual tuition at Massachusetts colleges runs about $9,300 for state residents and around $25,000 for out-of-state residents.
The state’s legislature defeated the costly bill, but the loss hasn’t deterred Reilly’s continuous efforts on behalf of illegal immigrants. Hub Politics says that Reilly has shown a complete disregard for the rule of law and he should be shamed for his putrid disrespect for it.
