Clinton Says No Woman Is Illegal
Perhaps Hillary Clinton has found a new campaign slogan: “No Woman is illegal.” Munching on the popular Mexican staple of tortilla chips during a campaign tour in Las Vegas, the New York senator shouted what could easily become the new theme of her presidential run after a man confessed that his wife is in fact an illegal alien.
The touching exchanged took place during Clinton’s bus tour of Las Vegas’ Hispanic and black neighborhoods this week. The former First Lady is courting both groups leading up to the Nevada primary on January 19. Clinton knocked on doors and even sat in the living room of a hotel housekeeper whose unemployed husband complained that his wife can barely support the family.
Then the former First Lady went for a bite at a popular local Mexican restaurant called Lindo Michoacan. That is where she took notes, munched on tortilla chips and assured the worried man that no woman is illegal. Clinton’s controversial stance on illegal immigration has gotten her in trouble before.
It was not that long ago that she came under heavy fire for supporting New York Governor Eliot Spitzer’s outrageous plan to issue illegal immigrants driver’s licenses. The highly controversial plan would have allowed the state’s estimated 500,000 illegal aliens to obtain licenses in direct violation of a 2005 federal law requiring proof of legal status in the U.S. to get state identification cards or licenses.
Yet, Sen. Clinton strongly supported the measure until the public outrage escalated and she rescinded. It was actually a Judicial Watch lawsuit, filed on behalf of New York taxpayers, that motivated Spitzer and other pro illegal immigration lawmakers to abandon the plan.
Now back to Clinton’s busy presidential campaign bus tour. Perhaps next time she will reveal if she believes that no man is illegal, or does the protection apply only to women?
