Dallas PD Drops Felony Charges Against Illegal Immigrants

The law enforcement agency that’s supposed to “serve and protect” one of the nation’s largest cities shields illegal immigrants who commit violent crimes, even when they are serious felonies involving weapons.

In dozens of family violence cases involving illegal aliens this year the Dallas Police Department dropped charges, even when suspects held victims at knifepoint. The disturbing revelation was made recently by a local news station that has followed the department’s shaky history of pursuing criminal cases against illegal immigrants.

The crimes are serious; the punishments non-existent, according to the report, which reveals that in 2010 the Dallas Police Department has dropped charges in more than 40 family violence cases in which the suspect was an illegal immigrant. At least eight were serious felony cases that involved deadly weapons.

Because local authorities failed to criminally charge the defendants, they were simply escorted back to their native country and released. In one case a Honduran man who pulled a butcher knife on his wife said that he had murdered three people in his country and was not afraid to kill again.

Dallas Police compiled a file on the man that included evidence such as photos, weapons and violent history but never turned the information over to county prosecutors. Despite the overwhelming evidence, the illegal alien was released from jail and sent back to Honduras. In a pair of other cases, criminal charges were dropped against two Mexican men after they threatened to kill their wives at knifepoint.

Law enforcement officials in Dallas, the nation’s ninth-largest city, refuse to explain the absurd policy but issued a statement saying that not every case is “prosecutable” and that it’s not “necessarily appropriate” to send all cases to the district attorney. Detectives try to balance the facts with the wishes of the victim and the interest of the state, the written bulletin goes on to say.

Ironically, a Dallas Police officer was murdered a few years ago by an illegal immigrant who had threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend with a knife. Released on bond for the murder attempt and for driving drunk, the illegal alien returned to the girlfriend’s house with a gun. When Dallas Police responded, the illegal immigrant shot and killed a 28-year-old officer named Brian Jackson. A jury eventually sentenced the cop killer to death.
