DHS Admits Improper Scrutiny Of Abortion Foes

The Department of Homeland Security has admitted that it inappropriately investigated Wisconsin pro-life groups that the Obama Administration had previously determined were likely to engage in extremism or terrorism.

The unwarranted federal probe was simply part of the administration’s leftwing agenda to pursue conservative organizations that oppose abortion and illegal immigration. Never the less, officials confessed this week that the investigation of Wisconsin anti-abortion groups was an “improper use of department resources” and that the agency inappropriately directed against activities protected by the First Amendment.

This sort of collection, retention and dissemination of personal information regarding protest groups which posed no threat to homeland security violates department guidelines, according to an internal Department of Homeland Security assessment of the incident.

In an effort to obtain more details, some of the Wisconsin pro-life groups that were targeted have requested public records but the government conveniently claims it has “destroyed all of the copies of the assessment after an internal review found it violated intelligence gathering guidelines about protest groups which posed no threat to homeland security.”

Once again the Obama Administration proves to be opaque rather than transparent. What remains clear as day however, is that the administration plans to go after conservative-minded causes and organizations. Last spring a Homeland Security report warned of violence by unmanned right-wing extremists worried about illegal immigration, abortion, firearms restrictions, the loss of U.S. sovereignty and increasing federal power.

The rather amusing 10-page report ("Right-wing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment") classifies war veterans as particular threats and implies that the election of an African American president and his expected policy changes are proving to be a driving force for right-wing extremist recruitment and radicalization.

The Wisconsin pro-life groups were targeted last spring as they prepared a rally to protest the heavily promoted opening of a new state university surgery center that offers abortions. The feds dedicated unlimited resources to conduct what they claimed to be a crucial security assessment.
