Every Vote May Not Be Counted

The crucial midterm elections got off to a crazy start with precincts across the nation reporting difficulties with computer voting machines and massive errors in one county that prevented citizens from casting ballots in 75 precincts.

From Indiana and Ohio to Florida and Philadelphia, the problems have put into question whether every vote will indeed be counted. The situation is so severe in Indiana’s Delaware County, that officials have already rushed to court to seek an order extending voting.

In Denver, computer problems created long lines that made it difficult for workers at precincts to check registrations against the master list. Many voters left the long lines before casting ballots and were not sure they would make it back in time after work.

Things really got crazy in Philadelphia where various precincts reported wild crowds and overwhelmed poll workers who allowed voters to cast ballots without registering. Red State reports that in, at least three precincts, several individuals are on hand demanding that voters vote Democrat. Apparently, this is occurring in mostly Hispanic precincts and some locations are supposedly not allowing Republican poll watchers.

This is all quite outrageous, especially since control of Congress is at stake. All 435 House seats and 33 of 100 Senate seats are up for grabs, along with 36 governors’ offices. One would think that the richest, most powerful nation in the world could run a smooth election in which every vote gets counted.
