Homeland Security Official Hires Illegal Immigrants
A high-ranking Homeland Security official, who oversees a large division responsible for preventing illegal immigrants from entering the U.S., has been arrested and charged with hiring them as domestic workers.
For years, the Massachusetts regional director of Customs and Border Protection (Lorraine Henderson) paid illegal immigrants cash to clean her house and she even coached them on how to avoid deportation.
A federal affidavit obtained by a Boston newspaper this week reveals that the Homeland Security director ignored repeated warnings from fellow federal agents about her illegal actions, instead protecting one of the housekeepers who she knew had been smuggled into the country through the Mexican border.
One of the illegal alien workers agreed to wear a wire and Henderson was recorded warning her not to leave the U.S. or she would never be allowed back in. “You have to be careful ‘cause they will deport you,” Henderson is heard saying. “Be careful.”
As regional director of Homeland Security, Customs and Border Protection, Henderson is in charge of the Port of Boston and she oversees nearly 200 armed federal officers who patrol airports and shipping terminals in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island.
She has been charged with encouraging an illegal immigrant to remain in the country and faces up to a decade in jail and a quarter of a million-dollar fine. The federal prosecutor handling the case reminds that Henderson is supposed to be deporting aliens, not hiring them.
