Illegal Immigrant A Terrorist Threat

Many police departments across the nation forbid collaboration with federal authorities regarding illegal immigrants but it was precisely that sort of team effort that led to the arrest of an illegal Indian man training to obtain a commercial driver’s license and permit to haul hazardous materials.

Like several of the September 11 terrorists, the man had entered the United States legally with a student visa yet remained in the country after it expired. He was enrolled in a Smithfield Rhode Island tractor-trailer training school with the goal of obtaining a commercial driver’s license and a permit to haul hazardous materials.

Mohammed Yusef Mullawala not only was in the United States illegally, he had driver’s licenses in three states, including Rhode Island, New York and New Jersey. Rhode Island officials say he falsified documents when applying for a driver’s license in that state. Directors at the trucking school contacted law enforcement authorities because Mullawala’s behavior was suspicious.

Rhode Island police officials credit the team effort of a joint federal and local task force for the apprehension of this potential terrorist who, at the very least, was in the United States illegally. The group combined the work of the Department of Homeland Security, local law enforcement, the FBI and the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

State and city officials posted a press release saying that the investigation is an excellent example of the successful collaboration of various law enforcement agencies working together on the federal, state and local levels in an effort to strengthen homeland security.

Ironically, it was not that long ago that a Rhode Island state trooper was investigated, at the request of a renowned “civil rights” group that advocates open borders, for apprehending 14 illegal immigrants during a traffic stop. The officer, Thomas Chabot, was accused of racial profiling for asking the immigrants for identification and later calling Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials when they could not provide it. The illegal aliens have since been detained and will eventually be deported for violating United States federal law.
