Mayor Trades Water For Sex

The mayor of a tiny Arkansas city that promotes itself as a friendly small town faces felony abuse of public trust charges for getting too friendly with a couple of women who fell behind on their water bill.

Troy Anderson, the 72-year-old mayor of Waldron, sought sex from the two women in exchange for preventing their water from being turned off. Anderson, who has been Waldron’s mayor for eight years, is also seeking the Democratic nomination for Scott County judge. He was arrested this week and is out on bond.

Authorities launched an investigation earlier this year into Anderson’s illegal activities with his constituents. A woman, whose water bill was several hundred dollars past due and had previously had sex with the mayor, agreed to wear a digital recorder during an encounter. The tape reveals incriminating details of the encounter and Anderson arranging for another the following week.

Needless to say, the media and blogs have had a field day with this story though it constitutes a very serious abuse of power by an elected official. A Drudge Retort headline reads; Arkansas Mayor Exchanges Fluids With Women. Bring It On jokes that there is something in the water and suggests Waldron elect a woman next time since there are a couple of them in town who need to pay their water bills and could use a better job.
