Michelle Obama Declares War Against French Fries

 

In a surprising betrayal, the mainstream media poked fun at Michelle Obama’s efforts to control the American diet after she declared war against French fries during a lecture about healthy menu choices to a national restaurant association.

Even if it hurts business, restaurants should exchange their top dishes for healthier items with less fat, salt and sugar and they should begin serving smaller portions, Obama said. As an example the First Lady offered this; instead of French fries, restaurants should serve apple slices or carrots with hamburgers and they can use less butter and cream even if it compromises taste.

Then she offered this insightful analysis: Americans are “programmed” by taste and commercials to eat all the bad things that, according to the government and health professionals, are not healthy for their bodies. That’s why she launched her multi million-dollar campaign (Let’s Move) to end childhood obesity in one generation, mainly by bringing “healthy foods” to low-income neighborhoods.

As part of the effort, the First Lady got her hubby to appoint the family’s Chicago chef as a “Senior Policy Advisor for Healthy Food Initiatives.” Not surprisingly, the mainstream media ignored that story, which was reported on this blog after a conservative Washington D.C. newspaper broke it over the summer. Sam Kass went from being a 20-something, Windy City gourmet cook—privately paid by the Obama’s to feed them—to big-time White House adviser in a matter of months.

At least one mainstream newspaper has dared to criticize Obama’s aggressive national health food project, cynically pointing out this week that the First Lady has been unable to convince the Smoker-in-Chief to give up that dreadful habit. The piece is accompanied by multiple pictures of President Obama chowing down on forbidden delicacies like fried chicken, juicy cheeseburgers, greasy fries and a hot dog. In one photo the commander-in-chief is toasting with what appears to be a glass of beer. Depending on the brand, a 12-ounce glass could contain up to 200 “empty” calories.
