Muslim Doctor Says It’s His Right To Treat Terrorists

A federal judge has dismissed the defense motion of a Florida Muslim doctor who claims he can’t be prosecuted for providing Islamic terrorists with medical care because it is his constitutional right as a physician to treat whoever he wants.

The emergency-room doctor, Rafiq Abdus Sabir, was arrested at his Boca Raton home in mid 2005 and indicted on terrorism charges for conspiring to assist terrorist organizations along with three other men. Specifically, the Ivy League-trained physician provided medical support to wounded members of al-Qaida, knowing well that the violent organization engages in terrorist activities.

Sabir doesn’t deny helping terrorist murderers and argues that providing medical care is within his constitutional rights therefore all charges against him should be dropped. In dismissing the preposterous claim this week, a federal judge explained to Sabir that he is not being charged for merely being a doctor or performing medical services but rather for providing material support and resources to a terrorist organization for years.

Medical care counts as material support to terrorists under federal law, according to U.S. District Judge Loretta Preska, who said in her ruling that “any reasonable doctor” would know from the plain language of federal law that pledging to provide medical support to al-Qaida would be a form of outlawed “expert advice or assistance.”

Sabir is a longtime and honorary member of the Islamic Center of Boca Raton, a radical mosque whose board of directors includes a Jihad leader convicted of shipping $13,000 to Syria. Sabir and his cohorts took an oath of loyalty to al-Qaida and promised to help them train for Islamic holy war and treat their wounds. He was arrested after a two-year federal sting and was sent to prison after being charged.

Sabir immediately retained a well-known Miami lawyer, Khurrum Basir Wahid, who happens to be the legal advisor for the radical Islamic group Council of American Islamic Relations (CAIR). Well known as an organization that serves as the U.S. front for the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas, several CAIR officials have been convicted of terrorism and are serving lengthy prison sentences.
