Oil-for-Food Money Could Be Traced to Clintons

In the final report of the Independent Inquiry Committee into the United Nations Oil-for-Food Program issued by Paul Volcker (available at their website), an American name turns up that some may remember from the Clinton years. That name is Marc Rich.

The report states that Marc Rich & Company financed 4 million barrels of oil out of 9.5 million that had been allotted to a French businessman by the Government of Iraq. The report went on to say that Marc Rich & Company directed Banque Nationale de Paris (BNP Paris) “not to disclose its identity to BNP New York in connection with its financing of the United Nations contract.”

A.J. DiCintio of MichNews.com writes that “Marc Rich was one of the Justice Department’s most wanted fugitives, indicted for tax evasion and illegal oil deals with Iran,” until Clinton pardoned him in 2001. Rich’s ex-wife Denise allegedly “facilitated” Rich’s pardon by donating nearly $1 million to Democratic causes, including $70,000 to Hillary Clinton’s Senate campaign and $450,000 to the Clinton Presidential library fund.

It is conceivable that some of the money that was used to obtain Rich’s pardon came from Rich’s illicit connection to the U.N.’s Oil-for-Food program. To learn more about Judicial Watch’s effort to obtain Clinton’s pardon documents, click here.
