San Fransisco Mayor Vows To Protect Illegal Immigrants
The mayor of a major city that years ago declared itself an official sanctuary for illegal immigrants has guaranteed that employees in his municipality will not cooperate with federal authorities to enforce U.S. immigration laws.
San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom vowed to do everything in his power to maintain his city’s illegal immigrant sanctuary status and assured that he will not allow any of his department heads or anyone associated with the city to cooperate in any way, shape or form with recent immigration raids.
In an effort to curb illegal immigration, Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials have conducted raids nationally and many of them have included neighboring Bay Area cities such as San Rafael, Oakland, Santa Clara and San Pablo. The northern California raids were mainly to serve warrants for immigrants who had committed crimes or had violated final deportation orders.
San Francisco’s mayor says that removing a criminal illegal alien from his city is not good enough reason to violate the decades-old sanctuary policy. Newsom made national headlines recently for giving his mistress $10,000 in city “sick pay” while she attended treatment for drug abuse.
Besides having an extramarital affair with her married boss, the woman (Ruby Rippey-Tourk) worked at City Hall for three years when she decided to get treatment for a substance abuse problem. San Francisco taxpayers, not only financed the costly treatment, they dished out $10,000 in sick pay during her leave
One political blog suggests arresting Newsom for advocating the blatant defiance of federal laws and points out that, the idea that a mayor of a U.S. city would openly and arrogantly advocate breaking the law is beyond belief, even for a city like San Francisco.
