Last year was the only year there has been speak.er the closing. went wjc intro gordon brown. Brown
spoke (and then left) and wjc did the last commitments and closed the session.
One question want see there decent mass offs related commitments announce together
closing mega commitment.

How The Clintons Might Have Saved Obamas
Presidency Obama wins, may because the former president
saved his presidency-but what exactly the Clintons
get return?
Monday, October 15, 2012
New York Magazine John Heilemann
Four years ago, September 11, Barack Obama
made the pilgrimage Harlem have lunch with
Bill Clinton. The meal was the first tete-a-tete
between the soon-to-be president and the former
one since the unpleasantness the -Democratic
nomination contest, and feelings both sides
were still raw and fraught with suspicion. Clintons
staff had wanted include Harlem stroll and
-photo part the visit, but Obamas people
demurred-a standoff that led each camp
ascribe race-related motives the other. Eager
avoid awkwardness, Obama kept the conversation
focused governance, not politics. But the
end, Clinton offered hit the campaign trail for, with, the nominee. Obama, fighting stomach
bug, said okay and then beat hasty exit avoid
upchucking Clintons shoes. truth, neither side was delighted the
prospect Clinton stumping for Obama. The
latters team believed that wouldnt move
many votes, and were only interested having
the two men appear onstage together stop the
press from harping the fact that they had not.
Clinton, meanwhile, was still simmering over his
treatment during the primaries-in particular over
Obamas assertion, before the Nevada caucuses,
that Ronald Reagan changed the trajectory
America way that ... Bill Clinton did not.
countless conference calls with his wifes
campaign, Clinton had returned obsessively the
slight, which saw not gambit get inside
his head (which was) but Obamas genuine
opinion. would have been less angry
th9ught was tactical, former Clinton aide
remembers. But thought Obama actually
believed was shitty president.
Dutifully, halfheartedly, Clinton headlined
handful solo events for Obama that October.
And then, the Wednesday before Election Day,
the pair enacted their one joint appearance,
Kissimmee, Florida. Clintons speech that frosty
night was emphatic, times hyperactive. Folks, cant fool with this! declared. Our country hanging the balance; this man should our
president! But his talk was all thirteen minutes
long and entirely formulaic, festooned with not
single warm personal anecdote insight.

But then, nobody cared that much. were all
just far past the Clintons.
Four years later, two words leap mind: if.
Today, Hillary Clinton the most popular member Obamas Cabinet, and her husband not only
his greatest but most tireless political ally. This
past September 11, the Y-chromosome Clinton
was Miami, ripping Mitt Romney new one over
Medicare. Since then, Clinton has campaigned for
Obama New Hampshire and Nevada, raised
money for him Boston and with him Los
Angeles-and there more come. with
Clinton making the case for Obamas reelection
has run 16,000 times swing states across the
country. Another, featuring clip Clintons

another top Obama adviser tells flatly the

Obama Clinton even bothers with the pretense
that there any real affection between them. But
most concur with the assessment Democratic
operative with tentacles deep both worlds: that
the relationship today totally transactionaland highly functional.
What Obama stands gain from the transaction plain enough see. The support the political
figure with the highest approval rating,
percent, any America. The suasive services surrogate who can talk the owls down from the
trees. The imprimatur former president
associated with period broad and deep

The potential payoff for Clinton more ineffable
but less substantial. Last time around recall
Oba mas candidacy was based part th~

history.
But now,
with
Obama

unabashedly the inheritor that creed Clinton reveling seeing his legacy restored what
regards its rightful status: restoration that

that topic rife within the Clinton diaspora;
one has clue whether not Hillary will
run. But, equally, one doubts that her husband
dearly wants her to-mainly because, among
members the tribe, cant shut about it.
Clintonism isnt the only thing being rejuvenated
here, however. Whats taking place the
-Godzilla-scale
revivification-and
the
enlargement-of Clinton himself. 2008 not
insignificant number white liberals and AfricanAn:iericans assailed him as, not racist, raceba1ter; was battered and bruised, scalded and
scarred, mired self-pity. But 2012, has
emerged the Democrats own Dutch: revered his party, respected much the GOP that
dare not cross him, sanctified the great
heaving middle.
The irony, and thick porridge, that the
instrument this transformation has been the
younger man whom Clinton once scorned
usurper-acting with degree cold calculation
that the elder cannot help but admire. Obama
engineered this reconciliation, and think the
whole time was, like, Why have

says Neera Tanden, president the
Center for American Progress and former
adviser both Hillary and Obama. did
because wanted win, and this was the way it. But the process, hes made Bill Clinton
the king the world.
Cli~ton, sure, has experienced regnant
periods before, and every time they presaged
precipitous and self-inflicted fall. his biographer
David Maraniss has observed, Clintons life
ceaseless cycle triumph, disgrace, and
redemption-up and down, and down, wash,
rinse, and .repeat. Among those Clintons orbit,
the salient question whether, long last, the
cycle has been broken. will the Maximum
Canine, having shed his leash, soon find himself
the doghouse again? few hours before Obama ambled the
debate stage Denver, Clinton was 2,026 miles
away, taking the podium the presidents behalf the Field House the University New

uncorked inside the packed gymnasium was
mostly abbreviated reprise his convention
stemwinder. But contained one new riff that,
the end the night, millions Democrats would
find themselves wishing had come from Obamas
mouth instead. couldnt believe the other day when the
presidents opponent said that the percent
American people who dont pay income tax just
wanna hang around and dependent the
government and, you know, just had wean
them off that because they didnt wanna pay
income tax, Clinton said. Now, guy with tax

you gotta give him credit-like said, thats like
Congressman Ryan attacking Barack Obama for
having the same Medicare savings did. When
~ou really bust somebody for doing what you did, takes lot gall, you know? But lemme tell
you who those percent are ... Most them are
families who work.
Clinton could not have looked giddier-jabbing the
air with his thumb, unfurling his trademark finger
rolls and open-palmed laments, his face flushed looked butter would have melted his
