MARCH 11, 2016
The United States military is in the midst of the longest period of sustained combat in our nation’s history. One would think that discussions about “white privilege” would be absurd in a military under stress by increasing demands and a diminishing budget. Yet it appears the U.S. Army, at the behest of the Obama administration, is prioritizing political correctness over the military readiness that is necessary to ensure our troops’ safety and battlefield success.
We have just obtained documents from the United States Department of the Army revealing that in April 2015, 400 soldiers in the 67th Signal Battalion at Fort Gordon, Georgia, were subjected to a “white privilege” briefing, including a PowerPoint presentation instructing the attendees: “Our society attaches privilege to being white and male and heterosexual …”
The slideshow also informed the soldiers: “Race privilege gives whites little reason to pay a lot of attention to African Americans.” It alleged that there are unspecified “powerful forces everywhere” keeping different kinds of people from being valued, accepted, and appreciated, but “we act as if it doesn’t exist.” This alleged privilege creates a “yawning divide” in income, wealth, and dignity. The material described a mythical African woman who isn’t aware that she’s black until she comes to America, encounters “white racism” and discovers the U.S. is “organized according to race.”
The Department of the Army documents were extracted thanks to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request from JW’s investigative team seeking:
Any and all materials used in an Equal Opportunity briefing provided on April 2, 2015, to the 67th Signal Battalion at Fort Gordon, Georgia, which included a discussion of “white privilege,” including but not limited to, handouts, PowerPoint presentations, audio/video tapes, course syllabi, and any recordings of the presentation itself.
The response to the Judicial Watch FOIA request included the entire Equal Opportunity Training PowerPoint presentation entitled “Power and Privilege,” which states:
Privilege exists when one group has something of value that is denied to others simply because of the groups they belong to, rather than because of anything they’ve done or failed to do.
Privilege has become one of those loaded words we need to reclaim so that we can use it to name and illuminate the truth
Race privilege gives whites little reason to pay a lot of attention to African Americans or to how white privilege affects them. “To be white in American [sic] means not having to think about it” [Quotation not attributed]
Our society attaches privilege to being white and male and heterosexual regardless of your social class.
Imagine a school or a workplace where all kinds of people feel comfortable showing up. [sic] valued, accepted, supported, appreciated, respected, belonging. [sic] Something very powerful keeps this from us.
The truth of this powerful forces [sic] is everywhere, but we don’t know how to talk about it and so we act as though it doesn’t exist
The trouble we’re in privileges [sic] some groups at the expense of others.
It creates a yawning divide in levels of income, wealth, dignity, safety, health and quality of life.
It promotes fear, suspicion, discrimination, harassment, and violence.
Consider the “black woman” in Africa who has not experienced white racism and does not identify herself as a “black woman”. African, a woman, but not black.
She only became “black” when she came to the U.S. where privilege is organized according to race, where she is assigned to a social category that bears that name and she is treated differently as a result. [Emphasis added]
The trouble we’re in can’t be solved unless the “privileged” make the problem of privilege their problem and do something about it.
The fact that it’s so easy for me and other people in dominant groups not to do this is the single most powerful barrier to change.
Though news of the indoctrination incident was briefly reported in Stars and Stripes shortly after it occurred, only one of the above slides previously has been made public. Confronted with the information at the time, an Army spokesperson claimed the presentation was not officially sanctioned. But your JW’s intrepid investigators wanted more info and pursued the full truth, resulting in this latest disclosure (and accountability).
Outrageous is really the only word to describe this type of raw, racist indoctrination. The Obama administration undermines the morale of our military with morally repugnant “equal opportunity training” that makes many soldiers feel unwelcome because they are the wrong sex, race, religion or aren’t part of a politically correct group.
This pernicious indoctrination program is part of a piece when it comes to the attack on traditional military values. We previously obtained Defense Department equal opportunity training materials that depict conservative organizations as “hate groups” and advise students to be aware that “many extremists will talk of individual liberties, states’ rights, and how to make the world a better place.” And last month, our team uncovered Air Force Academy documents that show how the Academy used its “Chapel Tithes and Offering Fund” to pay for cadets to participate in worship services featuring witchcraft, “Faery Magick,” and voodoo.
We will continue to pursue this issue, as it is beyond belief that our military personnel would be required to sit through a left-wing effort at PC brainwashing as the price for defending our country.
Judicial Watch Clinton Email Panel Next Tuesday, March 15
The Clinton email scandal developments break fast and furious and many Americans are apt to be confused by the misinformation from Hillary Clinton and her allies. So, to bring folks up to speed with accurate information and honest analysis, your Judicial Watch will be hosting a Clinton email update educational panel next Tuesday (March 15, 10:30 a.m. ET).
This week alone there were revelations that Hillary Clinton composed and sent over 100 classified emails and that Brian Pagliano, the Clinton IT official at State, who evidently helped set up and maintain Clinton’s so-called “private server,” was granted some type of immunity by the Obama Justice Department in exchange for cooperation in the criminal investigation of Hillary Clinton. And, of course, Hillary Clinton continues to mislead and distract with false information about what she did and what she was allowed to do. (JW was featured on a Fox News fact check of Clinton’s misstatements.)
To get the full picture on all the latest developments, including JW’s central role in the Clinton email scandal, please join us in person or online on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. (Eastern Time) (http://www.judicialwatch.org/live). Our panel is about as good as you can get on this issue.
Joining me will be Michael Bekesha, the JW attorney who persuaded a federal court to grant us discovery in the Clinton email matter. We’ll also hear from Jason Leopold, the senior investigative reporter from VICE News whose lawsuit was the vehicle for forcing the stonewalling State Department to make public the emails that Hillary Clinton decided to return to the government (Jason Leopold v. Department of State (No. 1:15-cv-00123)). And Joe DiGenova, (Founding Partner, diGenova & Toensing, LLP), will also be on hand. Joe is a former U.S. Attorney and a former independent counsel, and his analysis of Clinton’s misconduct is sharp.
As you wait for the exciting Tuesday panel, you can check out the JW Clinton email panel discussion from last year – you can get a free edited transcript here or view the actual video of the event here. And for more Clinton scandal perspectives, you can view here the hard-hitting and well-received CPAC panel on Clinton corruption from last Saturday.
Next week, Judicial Watch must submit its “narrowly tailored” discovery plan to a federal court. This plan will lay out the list of witnesses, at the least, that JW will want to question under oath in the Clinton email matter. So the pressure for the truth, as least as far your JW is concerned, won’t let up.
