IRS Sued for Monitoring U.S. Churches

Judicial Watch recently filed a FOIA lawsuit against the IRS, seeking records of communications between the IRS and Freedom from Religion Foundation (FFRF) regarding the agency’s monitoring of churches and other tax-exempt organizations for allegedly illegal political activity. According to Judicial Watch, the IRS targeted 99 churches, assuming they committed illegal electioneering activities, with the help of its “Political Activities Referral Committee.” Read more about Judicial Watch’s FOIA lawsuit here.
