DEFENDANT STATUS REPORT
Defendant United States Department State State accordance with the Court
order the motions hearing held July 18, 2016, respectfully submits the following status
report concerning the transmission documents from the FBI State and State work
search those documents. Thursday, July 21, 2016, the FBI delivered the State Department disc
containing thousands documents recovered the FBI the course its investigation. State
understands that the documents consist e-mails and attachments that were sent directly
from former Secretary Clinton, e-mails that were sent from the former Secretary

Department former Secretary Clinton December 2014.1 State has not yet determined how
many these e-mails are personal versus agency records. second disc containing classified documents was also transferred State. State proposes
inform the Court further status report, see infra either (1) that State has confirmed the
documents are duplicative others already searched this case, (2) that the documents are
not entirely duplicative and State will conduct additional search these documents.

After receiving the disc described paragraph the State Department began
loading the documents into document management system and preparing them searched. State indicated the July 18, 2016 hearing, State will search these materials for documents
potentially responsive Plaintiff FOIA request. potentially responsive documents are
identified this search, State will assess whether the identified documents are agency records
and, they are, review them for release Plaintiff pursuant the FOIA. State anticipates
completing search these documents, using the search terms and date range previously agreed
upon the parties (see July 30, 2015, Defendant Status Report Dkt. No. 17), later than
Wednesday, August 2016.
The FBI has informed State that plans make second and final transmission documents State later than Friday, August 2016. The FBI has informed State that
needs this additional time forensically collect the documents from the various electronic
sources which they are located, convert them the format that will best facilitate State use these documents, and conduct quality control testing ensure reliability. State understands
that this transmission will consist primarily materials from custodians other than former
Secretary Clinton that were retrieved during the course the FBI investigation, including
materials from Ms. Abedin clintonemail.com account.
Upon receipt, State will load these additional documents into document
management system, prepare them searched, and perform search using the search terms
and date range previously agreed upon the parties. with the first transmission
documents, State will search for potentially responsive documents, and potentially responsive
documents are identified this search, State will assess whether the documents are agency
records and, they are, review them for release Plaintiff pursuant the FOIA. Considering

search these documents later than August 12, 2016, assuming unforeseen technical
