Feds Dump Illegal Aliens Caught in Texas at Ariz. Bus Stations

As if it weren’t bad enough that even convicts qualify for Obama amnesty, check out what’s going on in Arizona; the federal government is dumping an unknown number of illegal immigrants caught in Texas at bus stations in Phoenix and Tucson.

The feds didn’t even have the courtesy to give state officials a heads up that hundreds, possibly thousands, of illegal aliens would be dropped off for processing by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and subsequently released into the general population. A chunk of the migrants got apprehended in Texas over Memorial Day weekend after crossing into the state through the Rio Grande Valley, according to news reports.

Evidently Border Patrol agents in Texas are overwhelmed because there’s been a huge surge in illegal crossers in one concentrated area and the Obama administration hasn’t provided an increase in manpower. So someone at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) came up with the brilliant idea of simply shuffling the weekend influx of illegal aliens to another state. In all, more than 400 families were relocated to the Tucson area as part of the operation.

Arizona Governor Jan Brewer learned that the feds were using her state as a dumping ground for illegal immigrants in the media. She was rightfully outraged and fired off a letter to the president calling the plot dangerous and unconscionable. “This unwarranted operation is another disturbing example of a deliberate failure to enforce border security policies and repair a broken immigration system,” Governor Brewer tells the commander-in-chief.

She goes on to blast the feds for abandoning women, children and unaccompanied juveniles in scorching Arizona summer heat without any food, water or basic necessities. “Consequently, this federal operation seems to place expediency over basic humanitarian concerns,” Brewer writes, reminding that this time of year temperatures in Arizona regularly reach 100 degrees. “The federal government should not shirk its lawful responsibility to care for and properly process these individuals.”

Brewer ends the letter with a few demands to help understand the operation’s scope and goal. For instance, she asks who authorized this policy and why the government selected her state as the target. She also wants to know how many aliens have been transported from other states to Arizona and released through this operation and what the federal government knows about the backgrounds and histories of the aliens being transported and released in her state. The governor also asks what’s caused the massive influx of illegal aliens in Texas that can’t be handled by authorities there and what’s being done to secure the state’s border.

“In closing, I urge you to end this dangerous and unconscionable policy immediately, and instead take actions to fulfill the federal government’s fundamental responsibility of protecting our homeland by securing our nation’s borders,” Brewer writes. President Obama will probably use the letter to have White House staff scoop up the First Dog’s poop, but at least Brewer is on the record with her concerns. The Arizona governor is used to clashing with the administration over immigration issues. In fact, the Obama Justice Department has engaged in a nasty legal battle over Arizona’s immigration control law.

While all this is going on, a huge number of unaccompanied illegal immigrant children are crossing into the U.S. and Obama has officially deemed it an “urgent humanitarian situation.” To handle it appropriately, the commander-in-chief has directed the Secretary of Homeland Security to establish an interagency Unified Coordination Group to develop an appropriate federal response to the crisis. This, of course, requires lots of money and American taxpayers will get stuck with the tab. U.S. taxpayers spent $868 million to care for unaccompanied illegal immigrants under 18 this year and the cost is expected to increase to $2 billion by next year, according to a mainstream news report citing administration figures.
