Kamala Harris’ Eligibility to Be Vice President?

“When you hear reporters say it’s false and racist – that’s just politics,” Fitton explained in last week’s Weekly Update.

Kamala Harris’ bid for the Vice Presidency has not only sparked the interest of voters. Scrutinizing her record as the U.S. Senator from California and her eligibility to become vice president under the 14th amendment’s citizenship clause, Tom Fitton’s Judicial Watch is working to get you all of the facts on Senator Harris before you vote this November.

In last week’s Weekly Update, Fitton discussed a recent NewsWeek article written by legal expert John Eastman, who questioned Kamala Harris’ eligibility for the vice presidency. He “looked at the law and the history of how the constitution has bene interpreted, and he suggested that because Kamala Harris’ parents were here, perhaps temporarily on student visas, they weren’t subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, and therefore Harris is not eligible to be president, and therefore cannot be vice president.”

“I don’t know if he’s correct on that, but I think it’s a more substantial issue than the Left would have you believe,” Fitton continued. Eastman’s piece, which was retweeted by Fitton and subsequently picked up by a lawyer close to the president – has triggered a strong reaction from the Left, which, according to Fitton has suggested that “you can’t even ask the question because if you do, you’re a racist.”

“I tweeted out a question with the link to the article saying ‘is she eligible under the citizenship clause to be vice president?”

Moreover , Fitton states “it could be argued that being lawfully here is enough to subject you to the jurisdiction of the United States under the law.” Regardless of the correct constitutional interpretation, “the Left hates the idea that there should be any difference between citizens and non-citizens.” Therefore, it might be unsurprising to see the Left’s attack on those who question the Senator’s eligibility, even if – as Fitton states, he had questions about John McCain’s eligibility, as others did of Texas Senator Ted Cruz. So, “when you hear reporters say it’s false and racist – that’s just politics.”
