As we go into this weekend of honor and remembrance for the people who died while serving in this country’s armed forces, take some time to contemplate their sacrifice. If not for those who fought and died for our freedom, we might be paying homage to a king, kaiser, fuhrer, emperor or commissar. Men and women in our military are dying now to protect us from being forced to bow to a caliphate. I am honored to frequently meet with many foreign visitors interested in Judicial Watch’s mission, and one thing I’ve learned from these visits is how precious this country truly is. Even many Western countries don’t have the vibrant freedom and liberty protections to allow watchdogs such as Judicial Watch to exist.
Our country is under stress from the challenges of a lawless president, an AWOL Congress and sometimes an imperial judiciary. But how wonderful it is that we can hold our president accountable, vote out our Congress and go into the courts to fight the most powerful government in the history of the world — and get a fair hearing! Again, this is thanks to those defenders of our way of life who gave up their lives to protect us from those who would take away these God-given freedoms. It is easy for Judicial Watch to file a lawsuit in defense of the U.S. Constitution and the rule of law because of those who did something much more difficult. We honor and remember them on this Memorial Day weekend.
