Rep. Steve King and Former Arizona State Senate President Russell Pearce to Hold Press Conference after Senate Judiciary Subcommittee Testimony on SB1070

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch, the group that investigates and fights government corruption, announces a joint press conference regarding tomorrow’s Supreme Court hearing on Arizona SB 1070:

Congressman Steve King (R-IA) is Vice-Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Immigration. He has fought for an immigration policy that will assist in the economic, social and cultural well-being of the United States. King knows that enforcement begins with common sense border protection but doesn’t end there. That’s why he’s introduced the New IDEA Act, a bill that would protect American jobs for American workers. King understands that immigrants contribute greatly to our nation, but the Rule of Law must be upheld. King will be attending the Supreme Court Hearing on SB1070 on Wednesday.

Today Judicial Watch client, former Arizona State Senate President Russell Pearce, testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee Subcommittee on Immigration, Refugees and Border Security.

Senator Pearce is the author and driving force behind Arizona’s illegal immigration law SB 1070, which affirms the legal and constitutional right of state and local governments to help enforce our nation’s illegal immigration laws. SB 1070 tomorrow will be under consideration by the U.S. Supreme Court.

On February 13, 2012, Judicial Watch filed an amicus curiae brief with the Supreme Court on behalf of Senator Pearce regarding SB1070.  The brief can be read in its entirety here. Judicial Watch filed a separate brief on behalf of State Legislators for Legal Immigration (SLLI).  The amicus curiae brief on behalf of SLLI was joined by 29 legislators from 20 states.
