The Maxine Waters Debacle

“The irony is, Maxine Waters and other Leftists are always talking about defunding the police and are largely against the Second Amendment, but they benefit from this armed security and expert security provided by Federal Law enforcement.”

Many will recall Judicial Watch’s ethics complaint against Representative Maxine Waters for what Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton recently defined as her “calls for incitement” in Minneapolis. However, her trip to Minneapolis was not only marred by her controversial public statements, Fitton notes. In fact, Judicial Watch recently filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request with DHS to find out more about her “special security arrangement” which had two Federal Air Marshals re-assigned from a high-risk flight in order to pad her four-man personal security detail, a move Fitton has described as a potential abuse of the Federal Air Marshal service. The Federal Air Marshal officials, whose “primary function is to protect flights … and counter risks associated with air travel and terrorist activity” were “yanked” from a high-risk flight and re-assigned to her DC-Minneapolis flight.

As a recent Judicial Watch Corruption Chronicles story reads, Waters’ request was granted as part of “a special “VIP” program … [which] allows members of Congress to get extra protection even though they often already travel with plenty of security on flights that do not meet the threat criteria, usually determined by the FBI, for air marshals.” In this particular circumstance, Fitton argues that Waters’ request looks a lot like a “rules for thee but not for me” arrangement.

“The irony,” Fitton continued, “is that Maxine Waters and other Leftists are always talking about defunding the police and are largely against the Second Amendment, but they benefit from this armed security and expert security provided by Federal Law enforcement.” Quoting veteran Federal Air Marshal Hightower-LaBosco, Fitton concluded in stating “how do you go out and promote defunding the police then call for more police protection?”
