Clinton Senior Campaign Adviser Arrested

A senior adviser to Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign who served as a White House aide in her husband’s administration was arrested for driving drunk on the eve of the New Hampshire primary.

The longtime Clinton confidante, Sidney Blumenthal, was speeding and driving erratically at around 12:30 a.m. while he was in town for the primary election when police pulled him over in Nashua. The officer smelled alcohol and administered a field sobriety test, which Blumenthal failed.

Hillary’s senior adviser was then handcuffed, arrested and charged with aggravated Driving While Intoxicated. He was fingerprinted and held for about four hours before posting bail and being released. His arraignment is scheduled for later this month.

No word from the Clinton camp on the incident or whether the valued and trusted adviser will be available to travel to upcoming primaries in the wake of the charges. One thing is for sure, though, the story made headlines worldwide and Blumenthal’s police booking mug shot has been posted all over the internet. One web site, notorious for breaking celebrity crime stories, called it the preppiest mug shot ever because Blumenthal looks clean cut and composed, his hair almost perfectly combed.

Blumenthal, a journalist by trade, has vigorously defended the Clinton’s through several scandals, dating back to the early 1990s when a group of Arkansas state troopers charged that Bill had extramarital affairs while he was governor. Blumenthal used the power of the (poisonous) pen to defend Bill with articles accusing the troopers of their own marital infidelities as well as fraud and drunken driving. He also viciously attacked the women, most of them middle class and blue collar, who accused Bill of harassing them.

Not long ago, Blumenthal trashed President George W. Bush in another of his pro Clinton articles, which claimed that only a dauntless Democratic leader—no doubt, referring to Hillary–will restore dignity to the Constitution. He blames Bush for the unprecedented decline of U.S. prestige and the flouting of our security and economic interests.
