Hezbollah Spy Becomes FBI, CIA Agent

In yet another major embarrassment to the nation’s intelligence agencies, a Lebanese illegal immigrant with ties to a militant Islamic group lied through national security background checks to become an FBI and CIA agent.

The 37-year-old Lebanese national (Nada Nadim Prouty) then used her position as an intelligence agent to secretly access classified information about her terrorist-linked relatives and the U.S. government’s investigation into their radical militant group, Hezbollah.

Prouty has pleaded guilty to conspiracy, unauthorized computer access and naturalization fraud in a Detroit federal court. In her signed plea agreement, she admitted accessing top-secret national security files on Hezbollah in 2000 and again in 2003. At the time the FBI was conducting a classified investigation into the renowned terrorist group and Prouty’s brother-in-law was suspected of having strong ties to senior Hezbollah officials in Lebanon.

The disgraced former agent also admitted improperly taking classified information home and collaborating with other Lebanese nationals to obtain U.S. citizenship through fraudulent marriages in order to get government law enforcement, intelligence and military jobs that require security clearance.

The FBI and CIA supposedly had tightened their personnel monitoring systems after agents from each agency were caught selling secrets to foreign governments. Evidently, they didn’t do a very good job if the same illegal immigrant with terrorist ties breached the newly heightened security systems at both.
