Public College Hires Disgraced Gov.

The once-popular Democrat governor who resigned in shame after getting busted in a hooker scandal has landed a job teaching at a public college while he contemplates a political comeback.

Former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer, once his party’s rising star, will earn $4,500 to teach a course called “Law and Public Policy” at the City College of New York, a four-year public institution with an enrollment of about 13,000. Spitzer has been hired as an adjunct professor in the school’s political science department.

It may seem rather bizarre for a taxpayer-funded institution to hire a disgraced politician embroiled in such a huge public scandal, but there’s a great explanation; Spitzer’s father established an endowment in the school’s department for the Anne and Bernard Spitzer Chair in Political Science. This probably compelled the college to hire the generous elder Spitzer’s scandal-plagued, unemployed son.

Spitzer, who served two terms as New York Attorney General, resigned as governor in 2008 after being identified in Manhattan federal court as “Client 9” of a high-end prostitution ring. Authorities revealed that Spitzer had spent at least $80,000 to hire hookers over a decade.

Spitzer ultimately got caught because he tried to hide the cash payments to the escort service and suspicious bank officials contacted the Internal Revenue Service. During his teary-eyed resignation speech the married father of three girls assured he will always feel remorse and apologized for not living up to what was expected of him.

Evidently the Ivy League educated politician thinks he’s invincible and plans to run for statewide office next year. He is considering making a bid for New York comptroller or the U.S. Senate seat currently held by former U.S. Representative Kirsten Gillibrand, who was appointed by Governor David Paterson to fill Hillary Clinton’s vacated Senate seat.
