Corruption Chronicles

U.S. Diplomat Guilty Of Child Porn

A United States government diplomat who pressured foreign visa applicants to have sex with him during a South American mission has pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography in a Virginia federal court.

Representing the State Department abroad, the 42-year-old diplomat (Gons Nachman) was arrested last month and charged with the heinous crime as well as misuse of his diplomatic passport and making false statements. Federal prosecutors say that Nachman made videos of himself having sex with girls as young as 14 during government missions in Congo and Brazil, where he was stationed as vice consul.

In court papers filed last month, federal prosecutors wrote that the facts could not be more compelling; a “United States diplomat filming minors engaging in sex with him, minors from the host country, inside United States government-provided housing.”

Prosecutors say Nachman pressured and pursued sexual relationships with attractive female visa applicants while stationed in Rio de Janeiro, where he was the U.S. vice consul personally handling the pending immigration visa cases. Now the disgraced government official faces up to a decade in prison.

Before joining the Foreign Service, Nachman was a law student at the University of Pennsylvania. With hundreds of diplomats representing the U.S. government worldwide, the program’s goal is to give U.S. citizens from all walks of life the opportunity to be the face of America to the world. In this case it was a shameful representation.
