Women’s Rights Judge Blocks Oklahoma’s Shariah Ban

A federal judge who as a senator took pride in sponsoring women’s rights legislation has blocked a voter-approved measure banning Shariah law—which calls for the beating and murder of women who don’t comply with its oppressive mandates—from Oklahoma courtrooms.

Earlier this month voters in the Sooner State overwhelmingly approved (by 70%) the constitutional amendment prohibiting state courts from considering Shariah law— the authoritarian doctrine that inspires Islamists and their jihadism—when ruling on cases.

The amendment was put on the ballot amid well-documented threats of Islamic Shariah law as a non-violent way to destroy the United States. In fact, months before Oklahomans voted, a bipartisan group of highly accomplished military, terrorism and national security experts released an alarming report that refers to Shariah as the “preeminent totalitarian threat of our time.”

Days after the election a nationally-known Muslim rights group challenged Oklahoma’s amendment asserting that excluding the option of considering Islamic principles is unconstitutional and “anti-Islam.” In its complaint the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the U.S. front for the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas, also claims that the law violates the First Amendment right to freedom of religion because it singles out Islam and is designed to stigmatize Muslims.

This week, a Clinton-appointed judge (Vicki Miles-LaGrange) issued a restraining order blocking the Shariah ban after finding that its Muslim challenger would “suffer irreparable harm” if the state implemented the measure. The order, which will remain in effect until another hearing later this month, prevents Oklahoma’s Election Board from officially certifying the results of the vote.

Ironically, Judge Miles-LaGrange is a renowned women’s rights advocate who is particularly proud of sponsoring laws to help women and children as an Oklahoma state senator from 1986 to 1993. Shariah law imposes second class status on women and violates the basic principles of human rights that include equality and the protection of individual freedoms. It also mandates the complete authority of men over women and calls for the beating, punishment and murder of women who don’t comply with its repressive decree.
