Top Clinton Advisor Guilty Of Drunken Driving

A senior adviser to Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign who served as a White House aide in her husband’s administration has pleaded guilty to drunken driving and will lose his license for 16 months.

Sidney Blumenthal had been arrested on the eve of January’s New Hampshire Primary and charged with aggravated drunken driving. The longtime Clinton confidante was speeding and driving erratically when he got pulled over by police at about 12:30 a.m. in Nashua. The officer smelled alcohol and administered a field sobriety test, which Blumenthal failed.

Clinton’s trusted senior adviser was then handcuffed, arrested and charged. He was fingerprinted and held for about four hours before posting bail and being released. The story made headlines worldwide and Blumenthal’s police booking mug shot was posted all over the internet.

A journalist by trade, Blumenthal has vigorously defended the Clinton’s through several scandals, dating back to the early 1990s when a groups of Arkansas state troopers charged that Bill had extramarital affairs while he was governor. Blumenthal used the power of the (poisonous) pen to defend Bill with articles accusing the troopers of their own marital infidelities as well as fraud and, ironically, drunken driving. He also viciously attacked the women, most of them middle class and blue collar, who accused Bill of harassing them.

Blumenthal recently trashed President George W. Bush in an article in which he claimed that only a dauntless Democratic leader—no doubt, referring to Hillary—will restore dignity to the Constitution. He blames Bush for the unprecedented decline of U.S. prestige and the flouting of our security and economic interests.
